Mission, Philosophy's and Inclusion Statement

 Mission

It is our hope to provide a home like environment where your children feel safe and loved while learning and growing.

Inclusion Statement

At Little Swans Child Care, we work very closely with Inclusive Partners and Early Childhood Intervention to ensure that our program is inclusive for the children in our care that need special services. We follow through with Inclusive Partners, IFSP’s, IEP’s, Early Intervention, ABA and any other therapies/programs recommendations to the best of our abilities.

We offer many sensory calming aspects to our program. We have quiet dark rooms available to children that are in a sensory overload situation. We offer a sensory swing that is a safe location for children needing it. We also have several other sensory items that are available. We are always developing our sensory care and evolving it to fit the children in our program.

While our program would be willing to work with anyone that is needing an inclusive program, we have the most experience with Speech Delays, Sensory Processing Disorder, Downs Syndrome and Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Philosophy

It is our intention as your child care to offer a safe, friendly, positive and fun environment for learning, growing and being a kid. We have monthly themed age appropriate curriculum that is sensory, and play based with academic elements. The infants are always included in every activity. No child is ever forced to participate in any activity but is strongly encouraged to join in the fun. Most of our time (averaged throughout the year) is spent indoors; I will provide age appropriate toys, activities and games for free play.

It is important to us that the children in our care experience a fun, home like environment and are treated as if our home is their home. The children in our care grow to become more like family than child care. We welcome children from all walks of life and cultures. Our program is considered inclusive and we work closely with Inclusive Partners of Oregon to ensure that our program will assist, be positive and include all children with disabilities; physical and developmental. We are accepting of foster children and their families as we know this transition can be challenging. We firmly believe that all children; no matter their life and family circumstances, developmental delays or physical limitations; deserve the opportunity to learn and grow at their own pace. We strongly believe in teaching and allowing children to do things on their own; working to create independence and confidence.

Currently, we are using a compilation of a few curriculum's. Resources are also pulled from online sources; like Pinterest and Teachers Pay Teachers. Structured curriculum is used September through June during the summer we focus on fun activities, outside play and cooperative games. Our curriculum focus is on early literacy and language, play and sensory development and social and emotional development. We will go on regular outings; for example, we attend Wobblers and Toddlers every Wednesday at 10:00am and Storytime every Thursday at 10:00am. During the summer we will spend every Thursday morning at the Library, 10:00am-12:00pm, for Summer Reading Program. There will be other field trips that will come up; families will receive notice of a field trip in enough time to make other arrangements if you should not want your child to attend.

As professionals, our providers and staff are always seeking professional development and continuing education. We focus these courses not only on our needs but also needs of our families and children that we provide care for.

Preschool Philosophy

Play Based Learning

It has been proven time and time again that infants, toddlers and preschoolers learn and develop best through play. Most of Little Swans Child Care's day is spent with the children playing. This play will be initiated by adults as well as self directed. Through play children learn important social skills, emotional skills, motor skills, communication skills and adaptive skills.

Academic Learning

In our society today children are expected to have a certain knowledge and skill set prior to Kindergarten. At Little Swans Child Care we spend September through May using a preschool curriculum that we have adopted to allow the children in our care to learn these skills. We are currently using Play Preschool from the Busy Toddler with added in curriculum features from our favorite Teachers Pay Teachers educators. We work on everything from our alphabet to our addresses and phone numbers as well as EVERYTHING in between.
